Editorial Review:
Album Description: In the three years since her critically-acclaimed debut, Martha Wainwright has toured and recorded with acts ranging from Neko Case to Snow Patrol. She has performed Judy Garland at Carnegie Hall, and appeared on the big screen in Martin Scorsese's The Aviator. But her greatest achievement is, undoubtedly, the creation of her sophomore record. Entitled I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too, it is a musically and lyrically ambitious effort, from understated ballads to intense rock numbers. Wainwright offers new takes on a couple old classics as well: Pink Floyd's "See Emily Play" and the Eurythmics' "Love Is A Stranger." With I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too Wainwright has created a masterpiece that will further establish her as one of the most exciting and brilliantly creative songwriters of her generation.
Amazon.co.uk: Martha is the youngest of the Wainwright clan (with brother Rufus two years her senior), and she's also still the one with the most to prove, even after her eponymous 2005 debut captured hearts aplenty via a delightful bundle of timeless folk ruminations with intriguingly fraught seams--and one infamously foul-mouthed diatribe against her father (folk singer Loudon Wainwright III). It's hard to know whether the family association does her more harm than good, but what is certain is that sophomore album I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too is as complex and emotionally tumultuous as its title and lays to rest any doubts regarding the reach of her artistry. From lavish psychedelic arrangements in "Tower" to "You Cheated Me" and "Hearts Club Band" which gush with the slick country-pop of Fleetwood Mac, to "So Many Friends" and "Bleeding All over You" alternating between Kristen Hersh's husky folk persona on one hand and Kate Bush's gallivanting tonsils on the other, all the way to "Niger River" which quivers and ebbs, fluttering between peaks with eastern trace-like qualities, she sounds both utterly liberated and firmly in control. It's a more challenging experience than the first record, but covers so much more ground and is richer for it. In spite of the title it can surely no longer be a case of always the mistress and never the bride. --James Berry

Having read all of the reviews of this album to date, I do agree with those that were positive, and don't understand where the negative opinions are coming from. I recently took a trip to Wyoming and back (from Missouri) and this was, to my surprise (being an old guy in his sixth decade), the album I listened to the most, returning to it again and again. (The other albums included Cave, Cohan, Dylan, Watson, W. Nelson, and many others). This album is well produced with well written songs and masterful singing accompanied by very professional musicians.
I rather like it, a lot.

Halfway between Stevie Nicks and Kate Bush, she finally found the way to demonstrate how good she is. Almost as good as brother and mum.

Three years after releasing her stunning self-titled debut (2005) Martha Wainwright is back with her second full length album "I Know You're Married but I've Got Feelings Too" (2008). Wainwright's new album can been seen as a cousin of the self-tiled album as the new CD sees Wainwright exploring new ground, while all the components of the debut are still in place; folk-rock ballads about #!@hole boyfriends, unrequited love, loneliness, etc. And while maybe not quite as memorable as the first album, "I Know You're Married but I've Got Feelings Too" is still a great CD that fans of the debut will enjoy.
Unrequited love never sounded so bittersweet with the opening sleepy, melancholy "Bleeding all over you," ... Read More:

Because of her family credentials, I had allwaays been somewhat worried about how her musical output would be (the daughter of Loudon Wainwright and McGarrigle...). The presence of Pete Townshend on guitar made me decide to make the plunge (as the price!) and I was most pleasantly surprised by the overall high quality of this record which is not as wrteched as some others have written. If you are familiar with his playing you will also eb able to quite well pick out Townshend's guitar playing. So, once again, I have been provne wrong and this is quite a good purchase.

How can you go wrong with Martha? She has one of the strongest and gorgeous voices out there. "I Wish I Were" and "Tower Song" are so hauntingly amazing. "See Emily Play" and "Love is a Stranger" are great covers. I love when an artist maintains the essence of a song while making it their very own. Niger River and In The Middle of the Night are also songs that are not to be missed.
All of the tracks are these crazy beautiful works of art. While I enjoyed her self-titled album, I feel that she's matured as an artist, and this album can stand on it's own two feet without missing the 1st one.
