Editorial Review: Amazon.co.uk: Anyone familiar with cultish comedy series Flight of the Conchords will be aware of the wonderful songs that the hapless New Zealand duo Bret and Jemaine concoct for each episode. Tackling all genres, from hip hop and soul to glam rock, the duo create highly original and well-produced tracks that typically satirise the very genre they're imitating. This album collects together many of the show's best musical moments, many of them subtly revamped. "Hiphopopotamus vs. Rhymenoceros" and "Boom" illustrate the pair's hilarious rap skills. "Think About It" parodies socially minded soul visionaries such as Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield, "Bowie" satirises the 70s icon (especially his prodigious drug use), while "Inner City Pressure" mimics the Pet Shop Boys. Two of the most memorable songs from the series--"The Prince of Parties" and "The Most Beautiful Girl (In the Room)"--are also both present, making this the definitive FOTC compilation. The humour ranges from offbeat to downright daft, but there's nothing laughable about the production, which is mostly first class.  Rating:  - Funny, funny, funny!!I loved this CD. I watched the show on HBO and it brought back a lot of funny memories. It may not be as funny to those who haven't seen the show. Rating: - HilariousFresh, intelligent humor from two unlikely stars, funny from start to finish. If you like the soundtrack definitely check out the HBO series, or vice versa.. if you haven't heard of them get out from under the rock and check them out! Rating: - Fantasy FlightThe show is incredible and the CD is a must-have for all fans. The tunes are catchy and the lyrics are funny and clever. I've been playing it through for several days now. My kids like it too. There are a few inappropriate songs, but most are very kid friendly. ("No, honey. He said mother FLIPPIN'") Rating: - 9 bucks well spentThis is my first foray into buying an mp3 album; quality is terrific, no obnoxious DRM to speak of, download was very quick. As for FOTC, I love the band and hope that the industry picks on the buzz and supports them so they can continue to produce what is IMHO very novel, hilarious and entertaining work such as the songs on this album. I recommend checking out their TV show as well. Rating: - Better Than the Tv ShowFlight of the Conchords is everything a former Weird Al lover could ever ask for. The songs get caught in your head for days. I find myself now referring to sex as "Business Time". I honestly feel that you would have to be void of a sense of humor in order to not appreciate this cd. I definitely recommend listening to it at least once in your life. You should be warned, you will get hooked. |
