Product Description: On One, Jamshied Sharifi collaborates with six virtuoso singers from around the world: Hassan Hakmoun (Morocco), Yungchen Lhamo (Tibet), Vishal Vaid (India), Sussan Deyhim (Iran), Abdoulaye Diabaté (Mali), and Paula Cole (United States). Also featured is an international cast of instrumentalists, including Ole Mathisen (clarinet), Eyvind Kang (viola), Séamus Egan (whistle), Brahim Fribgane and Stephane René (oud), Michiyo Yagi (koto), Mamadou Diabaté (kora), Skúli Sverrisson (bass), and Benjamin Wittman and Simone Haggiag (percussion). The result is a luminous collection of songs which shape and shift like small novels - ambient - rhythmic - both voluptuous and deeply spiritual, with incandescent singing from around the world.

I love to listen to this album on my way to Karate and Yoga. It puts me in a very open and contemplative mindset. I really love it.

Breathtakingly beautiful Oriental, Gaelic, and modern American influences are heard in this World Music CD. The underlying and overarching themes are undoubtedly Oriental, while a trace of minimalist is the undercurrent, all put together with sometimes lush orchestration, while at the same time never losing its identity.
The first few notes of the first cut, also the title cut, made me do a double-take, making me check that I'd put the correct CD on. The first few seconds sounded decidedly Japanese, with a soaring female voice. After the surprise beginning, the tune settled into a distinct Middle Eastern melody. Abdoulaye Diabaté, a Malian dialy, or griot, uses his high tenor in spine-chilling vocals on this and other cuts.

Drenched in world rhythms and instrumentation, and accented by contemporary Western influences, One invites the listener to journey to places off the map through its blending of cultures, performers, and sounds. One is a breathtakenly beautiful album!
