Editorial Review:
Album Description: 2007 reissue of the band's sole album, originally released in 1968. Stone Country were the Hollywood, CA-based Psychedelic Country-Rock outfit led by gifted singer/songwriter/guitarist Steve Young. Young had moved to Los Angeles in 1964 and began working with Van Dyke Parks and Stephen Stills while keeping his day job as a mailman. He formed Stone Country in 1967 and soon thereafter the band was signed to RCA Records. After releasing several singles, RCA issued the group's only album, Stone Country, in March 1968, produced by Rick Jarrard, who also produced Jefferson Airplane and Harry Nilsson's Pandemonium Shadow Show. The group disbanded when, in 1969, Young signed as a solo artist with A&M Records. Rev-Ola.

Is this a country rock album? No. Is this a pop album? No. Is it a novelty album? No. Is it eclectic? Yes. Is it too eclectic for its own good? Yes AND No. Depending on what side of the fence you are on, you'll either think this album is a great slice of a 'revue' style group [the group WAS brought together and didn't grow organically] or a glimpse of where the key players [especially Steve Young] were headed. For the latter, you might just end up deleting half of the cd on your player and relive what a double sided single life was like. If you're a fan of country rock AND sixties pop, give it a try. The cliches might grow on you.
