Editorial Review:
Amazon.com: Samantha James follows up her smash hit single that's been blowing up dance floors and mix tapes for some time now with her aptly named debut effort Rise. And rise she does, with a laid-back release that's surprising in its sophistication, depth, and soul. Samantha smartly teams up with veteran producer Sebastian Arocha Morton, who boasts production for heavy hitters such as Sting, Fila Brazilia, and Fischerspooner. Stand-out tracks include the funky and deep "Living Without You," the washed-out soul on "Deep Surprise," and the lush grooves of "Rain." Like label-mate Collette, Samantha shows us that she's as talented as she is beautiful, and this release is a breath of fresh bay breeze air that strikes the perfect balance between electronic and organic. --Anish Acharya

I keep it around for a car trip to switch on when I want to mellow the mood. Samantha actually has a nice even range. No stand-outs, just calming.

Samantha James has an incredible vocal style. The CD has a downtempo vibe. The vocals are clear, sinewy, and soft. I don't have a bad thing to say about any of the tracks because I love each song. This CD sets a great mood and is awesome for long drives or when you go for a walk - there's enough momentum that it won't put you to sleep.
Tracks that really stand out are Rise and Deep Surprise.
If you like good dance music that is not high energy but atmospheric and ethereal with accents of downtempo, try this CD. I don't think you could be disappointed.

Great music to drive a Porsche 911 at 6:00 A.M. with a morning mist !!

After hearing her song "Rise" I was excited that she had a full length cd for sale. I'm fairly new 2 the house music scene, so I've been searching with an insatiable appetite for new, exciting, soulful house music. I found the songs on her cd (outside of tracks 1, 2, and 5) to be dull, lifeless, and weak. The songs try 2 have a party atmosphere, the party never reallly gets started. He vocals are great, but I expected more from OM. U'd have much better luck with Aya, or Blue Six.

Aya with her album "Strange Flower" has much much much much more beautiful and sexy voice than Samantha. It is clear that Samantha tries to imitate Aya. I reccomend alos bside Aya, Blue Six album where Aya sing much better that this album "Rise".
