Though his roots are in the folk coffeehouse, he plainly has his ears aimed toward the rock arena, as the propulsive "To the Beat of Our Noisy Hearts" and "Detroit Waves" attest. "Wedding Dress" sounds like it's aspiring to become a first-dance standard, while the sensuality of "Come On Get Higher" suggests more stripped-down delights. A couple of lines here compete for the album's cheesiest: "C'mon let's make this dream that's barely half-awake come true" (from "Heartbreak World") and "What happened to feeling cheap radio songs?"  Rating:  - An awesome albumMatt Nathanson is not an artist that we get to hear in New Zealand. So I'm glad I stumbled across his music on the net. A really inspiring CD (as is 'Beneath these Fireworks - which I ordered at the same time) that I haven't stopped listening to since it arrived on my doorstep. Totally recommended! Rating:  - Wow... okayI'll start by saying I really wanted to like this cd. I've seen Matt live and was really impressed. I have to say, that it's a little strange to me that there isn't a bad review to be found here... mostly 4 and 5 stars? Even the best of records have a few unfavorable reviews... we'll see if this gets posted. At the foundation, the songwriting is pretty bland... and I agree with the reviewer, the lyrics boarder on cheezy... the production is unbelievably trite and unoriginal... and to top it off, the mixing isn't that great either. The drums (although played by a real drummer) have been processed to the nth degree, so much so, they sound like a machine... it's a shame. Records like this really piss me off. It's usually not the artists fault... ... Read More: Rating:  - Good CDThis is a fun CD. There's clearly the hit but the rest of it is pretty good to listen to as well. The 1st CD I got didn't play the 7th track... it would skip around and such on all players except my computer. Amazon replaced the disc immediately. Kudos to Amazon. Rating: - Great albumI bought this CD after seeing Matt open for Lifehouse at a recent concert. He is great live, and this CD is also fantastic! Definitely recommend it. Rating: - Underdog album is excellent!This is a solid album in my opinion from someone who does not get much play from the media. Nathanson is underestimated and I'm glad to see that he was on Conan O'Brien recently and that shows like "One Tree Hill" and "Scrubs" are using his songs. Matt Zarnstorff |
