Editorial Review: Amazon.com: Under its enigmatic title lurks a remarkably entertaining little show. The Drowsy Chaperone is a droll Canadian import that's part homage to the musical theater, part spoof. Narrated by the unnamed Man in Chair (Bob Martin), the show basically reenacts a 1920s musical named "The Drowsy Chaperone." This allows the creative team to match an inspired collection of familiar 1920s types---the flapper (Sutton Foster), the cad (Troy Britton Johnson), the zinger-slinging diva (Beth Leavel), the Latin lothario (Danny Burstein), the zany character actors (Georgia Engel, Edward Hibbert)---with witty, well-crafted pastiches of songs of that era. Penned by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison, the tunes are instantly hummable, while the ensemble cast is uniformly superb---you know the standard is high when the awesome Sutton Foster doesn't even stand out that much. Thankfully, the "meta" concept doesn't lead to arch-irony and detachment. Rating:  - The Drowsy ChaperoneRecalls the 20's era, with music and typical lyrics. i like the premise of The Drowsy Chaperone, and thought it well executed. Wish I had been able to see the show live. Rating: - The Drowsy Chaperone CDThis is a fun, and Funny show. and the songs are good. My Favorites are Fancy dress, Toledo Surprise, Show Off, and Cold Feet's. Get this C.D. Rating: - Some tunes to sing along with when you are feeling blue...If I had never seen the show, I might agree with some of the other reviews that the music is OK but not stellar. But, having seen the show twice on Broadway and the touring group in Chicago, I consider myself a fan and the CD gets a lot of play. We purchased the CD right after the first time we saw the show at the Marquis Theater (the original cast was still intact) and it has been an excellent memento to a very enjoyable show. While close to the dialog in the show, the actor's lines have been altered slightly to allow for the story, as presented in the CD, to flow better. This is a minor alteration and it does not detract from the overall enjoyment of the CD. It does help to see the show since the "man in the chair" provides a lot more ... For the rest of the summer, though, my friend and I sang a few of the songs whenever we were together (specifically, "I Am Adolpho," "Toledo Surprise" and "As We Stumble Along"). I enjoyed the music more and more as time went on, and she purchased the CD so we could enjoy. I especially like that some of the words spoken by Man In Chair are on the CD. I am sad to see the show closed on Broadway, as I never was able to see it a second time, as I would have liked. But I love listening to my CD of the music.
