Editorial Review:
Album Description: The Veronicas are Jess and Lisa Origliasso, 20-year-old identical twins from Brisbane, Australia-and they are going to rock your world. Adding a tough edge to teen powerpop, and the looks and savyy to back it up, The Veronicas were signed to an exclusive production deal with Engine Room on the strength of their first demo. With their irresistible debut album, The Secret Life of the Veronicas, written and produced by the likes of Billy Steinberg (Madonna), Clif Magness (Avril Lavigne), Max Martin (Britney Spears), Dr. Luke (Kelly Clarkson), Don Gilmore (Linkin Park) and Toby Gad (Enrique Iglesias), among others, the secret is out about The Veronicas.
Amazon.com: Good thing we live in an age of internet-accessible lyrics. Otherwise, millions of teenage girls might find themselves mumbling through this collection of burn-the-joint-down pop instead of belting it out, which will be not only their first instinct but also their feverish, feverish desire. As a flip through about any teen magazine confirms, the Veronicas are a pair of identical twins from Australia who ooze coltish charm, volatility, and an aversion to jugheaded songcraft. Their debut does not belie the glossy claims: "4ever," the single leading the flock, crashes the gate with a punk-slanting, slightly Avril Lavigne-y boy tease, and though the energy stalls a bit on sleepers like "Speechless" and "Nobody Wins," it more than resurrects itself with the smart lyrics of "Secret" and the lathered-on boldness of "Mother, Mother," the most smokin' track Lindsay Lohan never sang. Part Bangles, part Benatar, and all babe, the Veronicas have crafted a 12-song bender that crushes the short-skirted competition. -Tammy La Gorce

LOL! I havent heard the CD. but the samples sound great. It sounds a bit like early P!nk or early Avril Lavigne days.

The only reason I bought The Veronicas' The Secret Life of... CD is simply because I kept hearing comparisons between them and Meg & Dia (a band I enjoy a lot). I figured anyone being compared to Meg & Dia deserved at least a listen so I got this. Word of advice:
THIS IS NOTHING LIKE MEG & DIA.
It's not particularly bad. From track 6 on I quite enjoy listening to it. But, those first five songs are so disgustingly pre-teen that I can't even listen to them. Okay, I should probably elaborate on that a bit.
The music in those first few songs is pretty decent and the vocal delivery--as with the rest of the CD--is great. The lyrics are what destroy what really has the potential to be a good song. ... Read More:

The first I'd ever heard of The Veronicas was when I got a copy of the Australian TV series Cybergirl (PAL format- get it on eBay)- although the twins had only supporting roles in that series the DVD case promoted them. I eventually found out that they sing (most of their TV appearances appear to be related to promoting their singing career) and looked around for something they'd done.
I didn't expect much but was pleased to find that this CD isn't really too bad. I suppose the teens and 20's group will like it better (I'm 49)but I found the musical accompaniment to be loud and sometimes overwhelming the lyrics. The song lyrics themselves seemed all right, I don't have any favorites, it sounds as though the sisters can actually sing. ... Read More:
