 Rating:  - NOW YOU CAN (ALMOST) GET RID OF YOUR OLD VINYL... ...This set covers ALL of Al's first 4 Albums (Along with 3 Non-Album Singles). On the down side the Sound Quality is pretty decent, but you have to understand these wasn't recorded in the best of studios, and through the years Original Masters have been lost, or Recorded Over (Back in the day), so in some cases Secondary/Back Up/Mono Mixed Masters have surfaced up. The Brits probley worked with the best possible sources made available to them. This project starts with Al's very first (And overlooked until he became popular, then reissued) album with Hi Records: "Green Is Blues" that ranks among his best early projects that spawned NO Hit Singles, but a very enjoyable set that includes: "One Woman", "I Stand Accused", "Gotta Find A New World" ... Read More: Rating:  - Listen, please!Five stars. Al Green has a voice that can wrap itself around a song and make it new, something special, solid, classic. He sings without denegrating women; his love songs are from the heart, tender, without bluster or offensive male posturing (if I want that, and sometimes it can't be avoided, I'll listen to James Brown). This is some of his best music in two albums, one package--it's all here under the one roof. You can't go wrong. Unless you want to quibble over trivial sound checks (I hadn't noticed...). Buy it, pop it in, groove to the soul, let the spirit (of the music) take you. So good. Rating:  - Buyer beware!!!!I took a chance on this and wish i hadn't. the sound quality is OK, but not great. the really bad thing is for some reason the intro to "Love & Happiness" is cut short. not a cd issue but apparently a tape edit or something from the source they used. This alone caused me to put the cd back in the case and haven't touched it since. Too bad since the packaging and liner notes are really great. I have emailed the record company that released it weeks ago, have heard nothing. So i'd think twice about getting this, despite the recent reissues sounding even worse. |
