Until recently I had never heard of Eddie Izzard. Blame it on no cable beyond basic for a few years. But after seeing him in Across the universe and The Riches my curiosity was piqued and I stated to check out his standup. I've ordered most of them and they are all worthwhile having. DTK & Glorious are the best but even his others are worth checking out. Timeless comedy!

I've bought "Dress to Kill" and "Glorious" in that order and I greatly enjoy them both. "Definite Article" is another good show from my favorite comedian and it has all the trappings of his previous work: cerebralism, silliness, and a nice alternate take on history. However, this time Eddie's material runs to the esoteric (more so than usual) and a new fan might find it a bit uninteresting. As a die-hard fan I found myself tuning out once or twice, too. The show can get repetitive, particularly when Eddie seems to make private jokes public. After a couple of doses, this DVD can stand on its own as well as any of the others. Just be forewarned that it'll take some getting used to. In short: This one is definitely for the fans (pun intended). ... Read More:

Eddie Izzard is a smart, creative comedian. In Dress to Kill, he keeps you on the brink of hysterics with his take on religion, politics, social problems and general nonsense. His experience as a transvestite helps you to understand his perspective. The lead-in, with an entirely fictional take on Alcatraz, gives you an inkling of what's to come. Dress to Kill is performed in San Francisco, giving Eddie, a Brit, a chance to comment on things American. I love this DVD!

I am a great fan of Eddie Izzard, and have all his other DVD's. In spite of the glowing reviews I read on this one, I was somewhat disappointed in it, both technically and subjectively. There is no feature on the DVD to allow the viewer to listen in English and have English subtitles as well, which my husband and I both like since it is not always easy to catch every word Eddie says, and also I don't feel the material measures up to that of "Dress to Kill", which was my first exposure to Eddie and remains my favorite.
