A young girl named Odette (played by Barbie) follows a beautiful unicorn into the enchanted forest and picks up a magic crystal that proclaims her destiny as savior of the enchanted forest. Odette, hampered by an overwhelming sense of insecurity, proclaims herself unfit for the job and sets out to leave the forest when the evil wizard Rothbart (voiced by Kelsey Grammer) turns her into a swan. Bolstered by the powers of the magic crystal, Odette vows to defeat Rothbart. Meanwhile, love blossoms between Odette and the town's Prince Daniel and, eventually, Odette finds a courage within herself that, combined with her intelligence and the true love between her and the Prince, proves powerful enough to defeat Rothbart. The computer-generated animation in this 83-minute presentation is vivid and lifelike, the London Symphony gives a wonderful performance of Tchaikovsky's original music, and the choreography and dancing is nicely done thanks to Peter Martins and the New York City Ballet.  Rating:  - No subtitlesI "kind of sort of" like this movie. My daughter watches it from time to time, but the quality and storyline do not hold up against the other Barbie movies. Our favorite Barbie movies are: 1. Barbie as The Island Princess 2. Barbie in the 12 Dancing Princesses 3. Barbie Mariposa and Her Butterfly Friends 4. Barbie in The Nutcracker I would only recommend this movie if you are a collector and want to own all the Barbie movies, otherwise, choose another one of her movies and I'm sure you'll enjoy it more. Also, to improve her reading skills I often put the movies on with the sound off so she can read the subtitles, but I went through the entire menu system and could not find the subtitles ... Rating:  - Surprisingly wonderful!Nonna (grandmother) bought this video on impulse because it was on sale and she wanted to give my 3 year old something more to unwrap for Christmas. I thought I was going to die when I saw "Barbie". How annoying would this be? But to my pleasant surprise, it is actually very good! Not only is the story fairly representative of the real Swan Lake ballet, but because it is uses the same musical scores, it is easy to listen to (even for the 100th time, as we have done since Christmas). And my daughter LOVES it - not only to watch, but to imitate the dancing. So much so, that we've signed her up for ballet classes! Rating:  - Perfect for kids who love balletThe quality and story of this Barbie version is pretty good but I noticed it has more ballet dancing than singing. My little girl like this especially the ballet scene. If you like ballet this is perfect for you. I rated it one star lower than Rapunzel or the Princess and the Pauper as it has specific audience. Barbie as Swan Lake is a little odd... I gave is four stars because I did not feel it was as good as the others..there are still some questions I am left with after seeing this movie:: WHY WAS EVERYONE SO UGLY IN THIS MOVIE except BARBIE?? Usually in these Barbie movies the supporting characters..even the villians (La Verna of Fairytopia for example) are pretty decent looking.
