Album Description: 2002 compilation for Greece's premier prog-rockers. This was the starting point for Vangelis & Demis Roussos. 15 tracks including rare singles, tracks from the albums, 'End Of The World' (1968), 'Rain & Tears' (1968) & '666' (1970) plus the previously unreleased epic instrumental, 'Chackachak' which clocks in at 16 minutes.

"Babylon The Great" is an excellent introduction to not only Aphrodite's Child, but to the early work of Vangelis before he entered the "new age" genre (apparently he could actually rock out at one time). This collection draws from their three LP's "End Of The World" (1968), "It's Five O'Clock" (1969) and "666" (1972) as well as some single sides and the 16 minute, previously unreleased track "Chakachak" from 1969. "Babylon" may actually be a misrepresentation of Aphrodite's Child, concentrating on purely their progressive leanings and leaving out many of their pop oriented (and often gratingly bad) tunes. This is a great collection for anyone who has ever wanted to hear what Vangelis was doing before his solo career took off. The track selection on this CD offers a glimpse at some of the perhaps less well known Aphrodite's Child tracks. Beginning with the demo track "The Other People" (recorded before they were called Aphrodite's Child), it primarily showcases the progressive/psychedelic nature of their first two albums "RAIN & TEARS/END OF THE WORLD", and "IT'S FIVE O'CLOCK". Also included of course are five tracks from their progressive epic "666". The track "Aegian Sea" almost sounds like it could be from "L'Apocalypse Des Animaux", with its beautiful atmospheric wash being punctuated by a Rhodes electric piano. Some other tracks like "The ...
