Editorial Review:
Album Description: Seattle's Pedro The Lion (aka David Bazan) delivers Control, the band's third full-length album. This time around, Bazan has recruited the help of Seldom's Casey Foubert to share the burden, resulting in a collection of songs which play darker, fuller and sometimes much heavier than any of the previous releases. 2002.

this album is so melancholy and beautiful at the same time. what's great is that all the songs can actually stand on their own as great songs. but with some thinking on the listener's part it pieces together an entire story... but not just one simple narrative from front to back, but a story told from multiple, fresh perspectives. the husband, the wife, the priest, even corporate america with "indian summer" and "progress", maybe even bazan himself during "rejoice". bazan is smart. his lyrics are cutting. the music itself is well-paced and creative. this man has true talent.

I got this album about three years ago. When I first aquired it, I gave it a quick listen and then put it away for about 2 years. I pulled it out again and listened to it. I WAS BLOWN AWAY. I was on a long drive and I found myself getting extremely involved in the songs, the images, and the story Mr. Bazan told.
"Options" sets the mood for the album perfectly: an introduction, or backstory, to the affair between a husband and wife. "So I told her I love her. And she told me she loves me. And I mostly believed her. And she mostly believed me. But for now I need you..."
Then it happens. "Rapture" beautifully reveals the affair. "This is how we multiply. Pity that it's not my wife..." The imagery in this song is inspiring ... Read More:

This is the first Pedro the Lion album that i heard, and i was very skeptical at first. I found it too slow, and almost depressing. But as i listened to it, i guess i began to understand what they were about and became extremely intrigued. Now they are among one of my favorite new "rock" bands and i own everything they have put out. But i would never have gotten into them without this album. This album was the most easily accessable album of theirs, and needed to fully understand them. So if you have any interest in this band, this is a must have.

I'm only writing this review because I don't agree with the most recent.
Most Pedro the Lion fans I know say Control is their favorite. It's a great one to start with.

As i read through the reveiws, I see a lot of people that are dissapointed in 'control.' Personally I like it, my favorite song right now is "second best" track 8. I couldn't believe that nobody else even mentioned this song earlier.
