Amazon.com: Even taking into account inflation, it's ironic in this era of $250 concert tickets that critics harped when the Band charged $25 for their legendary November 1976 farewell show at San Francisco's Winterland. That price not only included Thanksgiving dinner, but also numerous guest superstars who'd influenced, worked with, and/or shared the Canadian roots of Robbie Robertson and crew. What transpired was a grand celebration of North American musical forms. There are numerous definitive performances here--from Van Morrison's goose-bump-inducing "Caravan" and solo rendition of the beautiful Irish standard "Tura Lura Lural" (Celtic music inspired those Appalachians in the first place) to Bob Dylan and "the Hawks" delivering a pop-metallic "Baby, Let Me Follow You Down," first captured on the Royal Albert Hall Concert tapes.  Rating:  - It is a fantastic CD set.I only wish I could have been there! The Band and their friends out on a great show and the these CDs are the next best thing to having been there. Rating: - Great! The Band is an icon!Anyone who has purchased The Last Waltz in the abridged versions really needs to consider adding this full expanded set to their libraries. Rating: - If you were born in the 60s . . .Here's my story. I'm about 10 years too young to have caught The Band in their heyday. Here comes the 21st century. Teenagers. Video games. PS3. Bluray. I got The Last Waltz movie as a freebie. It sat in the cabinet for about 6 months. Eventually, I put it in the player . . . Honest to God this has got to be the best film and album of all time. Unbelievable. I'm floored. Buy this album without hesitation and throw everything else out. Rating: - simply outstandingA great rendition of a historic concert, "The Last Waltz" boxset is a perfect addition to the movie DVD, and a real must-have to all Band fans. That's a piece of Rock history right there, don't miss it. Rating: - Fabulous music!The Band's "The Last Waltz" concert still sounds as fresh and innovative now as it did when it was first released ~30 years ago. It's amazing that none of the music has gone out of date. I like having all of the extra tracks that weren't released previously. Many of the best musicians of that era performed at the concert. |
