Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - (3.5)"What Is Real?Futureal"
After vocalist Bruce Dickinson left Iron Maiden, and in 1994 Blaze Bailey was the chosen one to replace him.Bruce sang in higher key while Blaze was singing low-key,to many people Bailey wasn'the right choice for the band.It might be true but the band had a chance to do things they never could do with Di'Anno and Dickinson, experiment and sound different.Of course many Maiden fans just bash "X Factor" and "Virtual XI" rather than giving it any chance.Bailey was perhaps too much of a change of vocalist for fans to handle. It doesn't sound like classic Maiden for sure,it sounds like a different band, different but good, they have a totally different style and energy.

For Virtual XI(1998)the band went towards a less epic style than "The ... Read More:

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great album ruined by haphazard production.
I bought this album, like most of the other Iron Maiden albums (er..cds), the day it came out. I was excited and took it home, and ironically was not dissapointed. Ok, maybe a little bit dissapointed, but not to the extent that many of the other critics and fans had been.

One thing you can say about this album is that it is a turnaround from their previous effort, X-Factor. I liked that album as well, but Virtual 11 has much more varied songwriting and dynamics than the previous one. I still think my enjoyment of X-Factor edges out this one a little bit though, as a side note.
There is more experimentation this time around, with the Who/Ufo influenced song "Angel and the Gambler" (yes its too long) with emulated horn section ... Read More:

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Worst album EVER! And that's coming from a die-hard Maiden fan!
Steve continues that he needs writer's block with this album! It's not Blaze why this album sucks, it's the godawful lyrics. Geez, who wrote this album, Bonnie Hunt???

FUTUREAL: 0/10: "Sometimes it feels like a game of deadly hide and seek." Dont't ask who wrote that line...

THE ANGEL AND THE GAMBLER: 0/10: Way too long, and more than half the song is Blaze singing "Don't you think I'm a savior?". As for the musicianship itself, it sounds like Chilliwack recorded this, not these Gods of Heavy Metal.

LIGHTNING STRIKES TWICE: 0/10: Even this sounds like it was written in 5 minutes on the toilet. "I ask myself could it be a disaster and when it's maybe threatening to happen again"?

The Second album with blaze bailey that joined iron maiden for a while.

Its a great album!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Second Album By This Line Up, Great Follow up Album
I believe this album had a lot of expectations from the critics, and there was a lot of hype and promotion put into this album because the record company was still worried about the loss of Bruce Dickenson in the Line up. It was undue pressure, because I believe Maiden already showed the world that life without Dickenson existed, and X Factor was great. This album is no Exception. Shorter, with only 8 songs, but full of faster songs (Angel and the Gambler and Future Real), and instant classics still in the set list today (THE CLANSMAN). This work is on par with the stuff relesed on brave new world and or Dance of Death, but some people do not give it credit because of this being Blaze. This is a great album, and was the first Maiden CD format I purchase ... Read More:
