 Rating:  - Tin can soundAlthough the colors are a bid faded, this is a beautifully shot movie. The scenery is very pleasing, and the acting is superb. The real downfall of the film is the sound. It's as if they were singing into tin cans to burn the sound onto records. At times, it's almost acceptable, then something happens and it's horrible again. This really is a pity, because with good sound this would truly be an excellent, cinematic opera production. Rating: - Good Opera!!Taking in consideration that it was done in the 70's it is a reasonable recording. Music is great!! Good to have one. Rating:  - THE DVD SOUND IS VERY POOR QUALITYFOR THE LATE 1970s, the audio quality is surprisingly poor. It can barely be called hifi, the sound seems to be intended for a tv set speaker. The costume are over the top and unmasculine for the men. I think that overall, this is a bomb. I would recommend the following DVD: Mozart - Don Giovanni / Gilfry, Polgar, Bartoli, Rey, Nikiteanu, Salminen, Widmer, Harnoncourt, Zurich Opera (2001) or with really great singers but from 1950s (still with good sound in colour): Mozart - Don Giovanni / Furtwangler (1954) with LISA DELLA CASA !!! Rating: - goodI live in Japan, so the product delayed for a few days. But the product is in very good condition. Thanks a lot. Rating: - Brilliant conception - but technology has failed usI recall viewing Losey's interpretation of Don Giovanni back in the late '70s at the movies in suburban Adelaide, South Australia. It struck me then that this what opera should be - drama and music without the limitations of stage. This is still a wonderful interpretation of this work but the quality of the sound and vision on my DVD is awful. Is there no way to resurrect the original? |
