Editorial Review:
Album Description: Zapp & Roger Anthology is the only 2 CD collection covering the entire Zapp & Roger catalog. 29 blazing tracks spanning over 20 years of funk! Includes 'I Want To Be Your Man', 'Computer Love', 'In The Mix', Dance Floor (Part 2) & more. Rhino Records.
Amazon.com: Roger Troutman summed up his biggest contribution to electro-funk with the 1989 proclamation "I Play the Talk Box." Both as solo artist and frontman of the group Zapp, multi-instrumentalist and George Clinton protégé Troutman made the electronic voice gadget the central gimmick of his groove-heavy style. A few other simple tricks--covers of bedrock soul classics, chicken-plucking rhythm guitar so hot it sometimes threatened to steal the show--helped keep his barely changing but hook-savvy style at the forefront of R&B radio for a decade. Having been sampled by or a guest with everyone from Dre, Snoop, and Tupac to the Beasties and Scritti Politti, Troutman continues as a presence years after his death in a murder-suicide plotted by brother and fellow Zapp member Larry. In seeking to fill a double-CD set, We Can Make You Dance stretches the Troutman catalog too far; only if you need "Talk Box," "Brother Lester," and "Play Your Guitar, Brother Roger" (or, to be fair, the long version of the Zapp benchmark "More Bounce to the Ounce") should this collection take precedence over the single-disc All the Greatest Hits. --Rickey Wright

Classic Roger and Zapp. This is truly and anthology that includes ALL of their classic hits and even some that I had forgotten about. I got fast delivery from Amazon, at a great price! Now I can "Funk Out" everywhere I go. Can you wear out a CD? I'm gonna try, so keep another one on hold for me!

I confess: This double CD set is the only Roger Troutman/Zapp material in my collection, so maybe I'm missing out out some of the long or alternate versions of the songs, as many other reviewers have complained. However, almost all of the songs in this set are very, VERY long (a 10 minute jam, anyone?), so I hardly think that they're "radio edits"!
My introduction to Roger Troutman was via a homemade CD that a co-worker gave me that contained two versions of his hit song "Computer Love." I instantly fell in love with the funky, heavy grooves and especially Roger's signature talkbox sound. Later, I would find out that Roger had played the talkbox on Tupac's song "California Love," which was pretty much the only thing that made that ... Read More:

This collection is slightly better then the "All the Greatest Hits" CD but it has some major flaws that the "All the Greatest Hits" share. The positives that you get the long version of "More Bounce to the Ounce" and "Do it Roger" two major jams by Zapp. You also get the long version of "Heartbreaker" another plus. You get the album version of "Doo Wat Ditty(Blow My Thing) which is also a plus. But this collection fails to give you the long version of "Dancefloor" which I feel is just as a major jam as "More Bounce..". Good thing I have the 12" version of "Dancefloor" on another CD. Also, it would've been nice they gave us the album version "I Can Make You Dance". This is an area where the "All The Greatest Hits" album drops the ball also. ... Read More:

I think that this collection is great and it has been a long time since we have heard the long versions of songs and I think that they should come out with some unheard tacks on a diiferent cd. If you are a fan of Roger and Zap buy this cd you will not regret having it in your cd collection.
