Editorial Review: Description: Legendary police detective Dick Tracy is the only man tough enough to take on gangster boss Big Boy Caprice and his band of menacing mobsters. Dedicated to his work but at the same time devoted to his loyal girlfriend, Tess Trueheart, Tracy find himself torn between love and duty. His relentless crusade against crime becomes even more difficult when he gets saddled with an engaging orphan and meets seductive and sultry Breathless Mahoney, a torch singer determined to get the best of Tracy. A faceless character, the Blank, threatens both Tracy and Big Boy, and it takes all of Tracy's skills to save the city. Amazon.com essential video: A flawed but stylish adaptation of the Chester Gould comic strip by director Warren Beatty, who also stars in the title role. The minimalist plot involves a battalion of baddies who confront the intrepid detective in a series of strung-together vignettes. Al Pacino is a comedic if overblown standout as Big Boy Caprice, and Madonna simply smolders as aggressive blonde bombshell Breathless Mahoney. It matters not that the plot is Spartan, as this dazzling eye candy is much enhanced by Stephen Sondheim's songs, including the Academy Award-winning ditty, "Sooner or Later (I Always Get My Man)." Beatty took his cue from the source material and concentrated on the relationships between these people, whether strained, romantic, or hateful. The performances are subtle and more amusing than you would expect from such a visually bold picture. Shot in bright, primary colors, this also won Oscars for Best Art/Set Direction and Makeup (for those inventively hideous criminals).  Rating: - Some really good scenes, & very entertainingThis has a lot of fantastic visuals and some really good action in places. Very impressive, great adaptation. Rating:  - Stylish fun.Dick Tracy starring Warren Beatty is a stylish and colorful film based on the comic book but the plot is not so hot. The cast is great, Warren, Madonna, Al Pacino and many more light up the screen. Madonna who plays Breathless Mahoney is fabulous in this movie, she sings as well. After all these years, Dick Tracy kind of loses its luster but the picture quality is wonderful so check this '90s classic out soon! Rating:  - Great movie at an amazing priceThis was one of my favorites and I was very excited to find it at a great price! I ended up finding many more of my favorites from the "You May Also Like" section after ordering this DVD. Rating: - Love This Movie This Movie is an old time favorite all the characters from warren Beatty, to Madonna and My Favorite Al Pacino this movie has it all. I would reccomend it to any one young and old! I could and will watch this movie over and over again. Rating: - A Great Version Of A Classic Comic Book Character Brought To The Big Screen!!I had to revisit this movie almost 20 years later to really grasp the film makers vision of this old comic book classic!--Warren Beatty, Al Pacino, Dustin Hoffman and the other cast members all pull off stellar depictions of the classic arch-villians that generations from the late 30's to the 60's grew up on!
