 Rating: - How many albums begin with the lyric "Imagine your brain as a canister filled with ink"? 5 stars all the way!Although I normally start with a band's earlier stuff when getting into a new musical artist, I, like many other people, got itno Incubus with their "Morning View" album some odd years ago. There was some great stuff on that album and I still love it to this day, but "S.C.I.E.N.C.E." has for me what I fantasize about as a music lover and as a musician. S.C.I.E.N.C.E. presents Incubus in a heavier, jazzier, more experimental stage of their history. Before they made it big, they made it bizarre. Before making the Top 40 rise with their songs, they made eyebrows rise with their unusual songs. When it gets right down to it, S.C.I.E.N.C.E. is a true masterpiece in its own way. It's got basically everything a whacked-out album could have: ... Read More: Rating: - Redefine!This is classic Incubus. I actually wish they still sounded more like this, though I do love their new material as well. The first few times I listened, I mostly paid attention to the music, which I love, especially while I go running. Then I checked out the lyrics and realized how profound this album really is. Full of energy, anger, insight, and ultimately, screams for society to transform itself through individual effort. Brilliant. Rating:  - Good old school IncubusThis CD is great. It's pretty hard core compared to their more recent albums but it has that raw Incubus sound. If you are an Incubus fan you will like it. Rating: - A solid record all the way throughBefore Incubus hit it big, they created this gem. "S.C.I.E.N.C.E." is probably their most diverse record. It goes from the nu metal influenced "New Skin," "A Certain Shade of Green" and "Idiot Box" to jazzy numbers like "Summer Romance (Anti-Gravity Love Song)" and "Deep Inside" to something a bit more radio-friendly with "Redefine." Aside from those tracks, you have several that can't really be categorized. "Nebula" is almost unstructured chaos from beginning to end. "Calgone" goes from trippy sections to crazy riffing. "Magic Medicine" is an instrumental interlude with some lady talking about hippos in the background. Nearly every track is unique, and a complete listen will make you wonder if you are still hearing ... Read More: Rating: - Good AlbumFor those new to Incubus, I think this would definitely be a good place to start. This album has the heavy roots for the more metal oriented crowd but also has funk elements leaving the Red Hot Chili Peppers fans pleased as well. This album is not as much of an "acquired taste" as some of their other releases, therefore making it the most accessible. If you're a rock fan in general, I honestly don't think you can go wrong with this one. For me, this is one of few albums in my collection that I can listen to every song. Some personal favorites are "A certain shade of green," "favorite things," and "glass." A great album overall. |
