 Rating:  - Les is moreThis is fun to listen to and reminisce. It's funny how such a simple idea can change music forever. Rating:  - A Great Perspective on Les PaulLes Paul's career has spanned many decades but the years he spent playing jazz with his trio has affected all of his playing since then. Listening to these recordings exposes the roots of his work with Mary Ford and even sheds much light on the recordings he did with Chet Atkins in the late '70s. It's good to remember that Les Paul was born only five years after Django Reinhardt and was born before Charlie Christian. When his style is analyzed in its historical context it makes much more sense that he would be doing Django-like tremolos even though he was playing them on a modified archtop electric guitar which altered the effect considerably. My parents danced to Les Paul music in 1946. I've always listened to his music while still living with my parents in the 70s. He has this amazing guitar sound but I didn't realize till this year when my son wrote a report about him that he invented the electric guitar and is also responsible for the "reverve", or over-dubbing technique all musicians use today! He is now 92 and still performs at the Iridium in New York City[..]. This CD is representative of his wonderful music and fine guitar playing. But to see his superb musicianship, catch him in person. This legend is my hero. |
