Editorial Review: Amazon.com: Thomas Young, Roderick Dixon, and Victor Trent Cook do not have the level of name recognition enjoyed by the other three tenors, José Carreras, Placido Domingo, and Luciano Pavarotti, but in this concert, taped for a Great Performances telecast, they show spectacular depth and a variety of talents. They begin with opera, sharing solos in "La donna e mobile," and other operatic material is included--notably "Nessun dorma," which is one of Pavarotti's signature tunes, and "Ah! mes amis" from La Fille du Regiment, with its formidable series of high Cs. But a livelier agenda is established with "Let the Good Times Roll," and the program expands to include pop, blues, Broadway, spirituals, and even a touch of patriotism in "America the Beautiful."  Rating: - An Absolute DelightI enjoyed "Three Mo' Tenors" so much that I hated when the performance ended. It's a classic. I consider a classic to be any performance that is so appealing, I can watch it over and over again and enjoy it as much as I did the first time. Rating: - MY KINDA GUYS!Dixon Trent and Young are alright. Trent, I am familiar with from the Leiber and Stoller show. The other guys are new to me. But each one holds his own. It took me three tries and eight months to order this. I am finally glad to get it. And it is a delight. Something else to turn my children on to. Rating:  - a lot mo' fun than the originalsUnrestricted pleasure . At 87 and counting, Minnie the Moocher brought back fond memories and Try to Remember, while still ridiculously sudsy, makes me want to. Will there be mo'? Rating: - Great MusicI use Three Mo Tenors in my Humanities class to introduce Opera and to my Contemorary Fine Arts classes to demonstrate diversity. It begins with an aria getting the 'Three Tenors' treatment which morphs into various exciting forms of more accessible music like soul, MoTown, gospel, jazz, and blues. These guys are the real deal. Students realize it and generally accept the different forms of music that are so masterfully executed. There is even a touching rendition of "Nothing's Going to Harm You" from Sweeney Todd. The secret is to prepare the students to be bored by Opera so that you let them discover the surprize. Rating: - Three Mo TenorsLove it. I cannot seem to keep a copy. Others see and hear it and want a copy. I have had to order this four times in order to keep a copy. Others by this group are just as entertaining. This is good for kids as well as adults. They are just plain good. |
