For so long I have dispaired about "Newgrass" and other adulterated mutant forms of the best genre of music ever created, Bluegrass. But along comes this group, and they got it right. They have to have it in their soul like I do, to be able to play and sing like that. "A Little Unfair" is my favorite on this CD, a work that appears so effortlessly sung by their guitar player Russell Moore. What a voice. The backup instrumental arrangements are so tight and perfect--Flatt & Scruggs would be proud to call it their own, in their heyday. I have a Barbershop, 4 part harmony background, and whoever sings bass in this group also has a rare, unique talent. When I hear this group many thoughts of the late Bill & Charlie Monroe, The Delmore Brothers, The Carter Family, Hanks Williams and Jimmie Rodgers...early Country & Bluegrass shades of Gospel give us a whole new reason for living.
Remember some of their earlier works ~ "Letter To Home"..."Living on the Other Side"(outstanding album, possibly their best to date)..."Live at the Mac"..."John & Mary"...all the mentioned released on Rounder Records, and this "Back To The Mac", all feature the Lester Flatt & Earl Scrugg's test of time.
