Editorial Review: Album Description: A collection of songs by San Francisco Bay Area bassist/singer/songwriter John Lester recorded live at one of the nations leading folk venues The Freight and Salvage in Berkeley, California. Lester starts the show with his unique bass and vocal solo performances playing both upright bass and fretless electric bass. He is later joined by saxophonist Bob Johnson, percussionist Paulo Baldi, electric bassist Kenon Chen, pianist Nyree, and percusionist Celso Alberty for duets and ensemble pieces that range from folk, to jazz, to world music influences. Two of the songs on this live recording were named "Song of the Year" for The Northern California Songwriter's Association: "The Ways of a Woman" (1999) and "Both a Blessing and a Curse" (2001). |
