Editorial Review:
Amazon.com: Forrest Gump (1994) is one of the most successful films ever made, winning Tom Hanks his second successive Best Actor Oscar (he won the previous year for Philadelphia) as well as claiming the Best Picture Oscar and many other awards and nominations, including several for music. A unique fable of American life from the 1950s to the 80s, the film blends comedy, drama, war, romance and groundbreaking special effects into a social and political portrait of the passing years, all seen through the eyes of the intellectually challenged but immensely likeable Forrest Gump. The soundtrack is a double album featuring 31 classic pop tunes plus a suite from Alan Silvestri's rich orchestral music, represented more completely on the companion score album. Opening with Elvis Presley's "Hound Dog", this is a fine anthology of three decades of American music, taking in everything from Joan Baez's "Blowin' In The Wind" to Aretha Franklin's "Respect", The Mammas and The Papas' "California Dreamin'" and Simon & Garfunkel's "Mrs. Robinson". Here also is Scott McKenzie with "San Francisco", plus Jefferson Airplane, the Supremes, Lynyrd Skynrd and many more. Like American Graffiti (1973), this is one of the great pop soundtracks, happily at home in just about any music collection. --Gary S. Dalkin

The soundtrack to the movie Forrest Gump gives us an excellent assortment of American hits that cannot be ignored; they're all THAT good. The quality of the sound is excellent; and the artwork is very tastefully done.
The track set starts off with none other than Elvis Presley singing and belting out his famous number, "Hound Dog." The guitar work and drums work well; but Elvis' voice carries this number and the backup vocalists are great! "(I Don't Know Why) But I Do" by Clarence 'Frogman' Henry registers huge on this scale; this gets the royal treatment and it fits perfectly with so much of the other music on this album. Similarly "Walk Right In" by The Rooftop Singers has an infectiously happy melody to it; and this is an excellent ... Read More:

What a mistake. I heard the Forest Gump Suite and it was pretty. The CD is a compilation of old radio music, My fault, should have paid attention to the listed contents

If you ever saw the Forrest Gump movie and loved the music playing you will love this soundtrack. All of the different musical eras that were portrayed in the movie were classics.

The music compiled on this sound track spans years from the 50's to the 80's and contains lots of greats that give you a flavor of what was happening during those times in America. For me, each song evokes something beyond what the movie portrayed which makes it a great collection.
I have found that I can put this CD on in a mixed crowd with people of all ages and most people find the two discs set enjoyable to listen to plus it often starts some interesting conversations. Many tunes I find myself singing and dancing along to like Aretha Franklin's "Respect", which makes it a great CD to put on for a party.
