We are A&C is a kaleidoscopic, genre-hopping joyride through the playful minds of Arling & Cameron! A 2001 Emperor Norton release. Amazon.com: Leave the disco exploration to Daft Punk and Basement Jaxx; leave the lofty lounge kitsch to Air. Like virtual tourists, Arling & Cameron skim it all (and more) with their own peculiar brand of Dutch cheese powering the trip. Arling & Cameron dabble in 22nd-century space pop, riding the soul train here, dancing with cocktail bongos there. Throughout its style excursions, We Are A&C is steeped in happy synths and crisp drum machines that help make the world safe for microchips and modems. They couldn't be soulful (or apparently original) if they tried, but as the twosome did on their debut, they excel with the highest form of flattery. The snappy, swinging "Can You Pah-Pah?" is a ringer for the Swedish wunderpop of Komeda; "Love and Understanding" apes the sexy slo-mo of Air (or is that Barry White?); "We Are A&C" humorously recalls Sister Sledge(!), or perhaps Kraftwerk. And sometimes, as on the cloyingly kitschy "Freedom, Right Now!" A&C give the Partridge Family a run for their bubblegum. But they soon recover with the Burt Bacharach-like sheen of "Ocean Drive" and the luscious Brazilian jazz of "Sunday." --Ken Micallef Customer Reviews

 Rating: - Only 2 good songsIn truth I gave 4 stars to 2 songs on it that I've loved since 2001 and thats Sunday and Ocean Drive. I hate to admit but the rest is nothing to write home about. I think they would do much better sticking to morden jazzy lounge music like these 2 songs. Rating:  - awful I want my money backThere's only two good songs in it. The rest is really half arsed. One song sounds like TLC or 3LW or some mainstream hip hop. The jazzy poppy stuff is really awful too. I sure hate this album. Rating:  - I Guessed Right!Today I put this one on for the first time ever. The songs caught my attention quick. And I think that most will find that there isn't much time at all for this catchy piece of work to grow on you. My experience is that those that take a while, turn out with the most to offer. I'm not saying that this won't age well or offer new surprises. I was just reveling awfully soon I guess. My favorites are "Coconut Congo", "Dirty Robot", and "Don't you F**k." It is everything I envisioned after having ("Music For Imaginary Films") which I treasure. I can't wait to get in the car tommorrow and listen right through it again as I revisit the roads that I took my new A&C journey on. Rating: - Dutch MastersFans of their 1st album All In take note....this is more like it!I loved the Soundtrack album they did,but I really love their pop tunes!These guys are all over the place as usual...80's style dance workouts,big guitars,r n' b ballads,blues and more get masterfully blended together into this heady brew.They approach all kinds of genres with a little bit of irreverence which I find highly entertaining.After one listen I knew these songs,which is a testament to catchiness! This is one for fans of intelligently crafted Euro flavored pop and dance music! |
