Traditional Irish music at its best. Finn Mac Ginty and Dale Russ deliver the excitement of their live performances on this wonderful CD. Mac Ginty's delightful vocals and dynamic guitar are compelling and Russ is a master Irish fiddle player. Mac Ginty's vocals and lyrics on Far Away in Australia, Heather on the Moor, North Amerikay, The Shamrock, The Briar and the Rose capture that unique traditional Irish mix of joy, optimism, humour and sense of history. Dale Russ' virtuosity is well demonstrated on this collection of popular reels, jigs, hornpipes, and O'Carolan's Blind Mary.
Buy this CD! Get one for your friends; they will thank you. While in Seattle go see them perform live at Conor Byrne's Pub in Ballard (It's worth the trip!)

From the first cut on this cd to the last, you never stop feeling that this is how Irish music should be played and heard. These guys play from the heart and soul of Ireland. One of the best you'll ever hear.

Dale Russ and Finn MacGinty have come up with a fine collection of Irish music. MacGinty's guitar and Russ's fiddle playing are assured and tasteful. There are reels, hornpipes, polkas, slides and O'Carolan's air 'Blind Mary'. MacGinty sings a brace of songs - my favorites being 'Heather on the Moor' and the non-traditional 'The Briar and the Rose'. The album closes with MacGinty's 'Lullaby for Rory' and beautiful playing from all the musicians - with a little help from friends on flute, pipes and dobro.

I was fortunate enough to see Russ and Mac Ginty live a number of times, so I was very happy when I recieved this CD. Jigs, reels, hornpipes, waltzes, polkas, quirky humour, .. This recording has a little bit of everything, all of it infused with a vibrant energy that makes me think these guys love what they do.I'm no afficianado, but I would recommend this CD to anyone interested in Irish music.

First, I noticed the honest feeling of these musicians about the tunes. They have a basic respect for the tradition. Sometimes, someone will ask me "what does it mean to play a tune the Irish way instead of Celtic. The Irish way puts the tune first and personalities second. This CD is a clear example of that, and I can now recommend it highly to people interested in learning about the emotional magic of the Irish and their music. Finn MacGinty also sings on this CD. His vocals add a bit of homespun flavor to the CD. The song Heather on the Moor is sung particularly well. However, my most favor is The Shamrock song, it gives me a chuckle whenever I listen to the CD. They also have some funny linear notes about the tunes. On the more serious ... Read More:
