Editorial Review: Amazon.com: Author John Bradshaw (Healing the Shame That Binds You and Homecoming: Reclaiming and Championing Your Inner Child) teams up with Steven Halpern for a pair of music-enhanced guided meditations where Bradshaw encourages listeners to breathe out tension and accept "your higher power" to replace the internal vacuum that he identifies as a common spiritual affliction. Bradshaw and Halpern spend the first 21 minutes of this 50-minute disc swapping views on the merits of attaining what Halpern calls a "deeply relaxed psycho-spiritual state of peace, harmony, and attunement." Bradshaw's "journey to wholeness" is rooted in the 11th step of the 12-step recovery process, seeking connection to a higher power through prayer and meditation. In the second installment, Bradshaw's slight drawl mingles with Halpern's modest, dreamlike audio backdrop, creating a gently hypnotic discourse that is earnestly presented, though skeptical listeners might chuckle at Bradshaw's exhortations to "breathe through your knees" and other bodily regions to attain full relaxation. The disc concludes with Halpern quietly noodling on the electric piano for eight minutes while periodically intoning the colors of the chakra and their corresponding locations in the body.  Rating:  - I listen to the 11th Step meditation daily!I had bought the audio tape years ago after I attended a John Bradshaw/Steve Halperin Workshop on "The Inner Child." I have found the meditations to be very helpful. When I'm tired, scared, or depressed, I lay down and listen to either or both meditations. I may do this to get centered and/or receive messages from my "Higher Power." Listening to John's voice and message and Steven's gentle music also releases the stress in my body. The sound of Johns voice is very pleasant, a rich baritone.He has a way with words and a gift for speaking. I usually get up after my meditation and feel rejuvenated; physically, emotionally and spiritually.Sometimes I listen to John Bradshaw's 11th step meditations as I go to sleep. I normally have good REM ... Read More: Rating:  - Both of these meditations are helpful and useful.John Bradshaw and Steve Halpern team up to give us a guide to the 11th step meditation. They have a very helpful and insightful discussion on side one about meditation and meditation music. On side two there is a 6 minute and a fifteen minute meditation. I have listened to both of these many times. The short one is great when you have a few minutes at work or anytime you need to come apart for a while. The longer meditation is a guided journey that is very relaxing. I would recommend this tape to any one looking for a meditation tape whether he is in recovery or not. |
