Editorial Review:
Album Description: Limited edition Japanese pressing of the 1991 album comes packaged in a miniature LP sleeve. Featuring some of the band's best known moments ('Under The Bridge', 'Give It Away', 'Breaking The Girl' and 'Suck My Kiss', this was the band's breakthrough album that turned them into worldwide arena superstars. WP. 2006.
Amazon.com essential recording: With valuable assistance from producer Rick Rubin, the Peppers find just the right blend of punk, funk, and hip-hop. Even with a running time of 74 minutes, this 1991 breakthrough has continuity and cohesion both within and across the 17 cuts. Riding Flea's surging bass, Anthony Kiedis delivers his explicit lyrics with a rapper's flair, extolling the virtues (and outlining the dangers) of sex and drugs. Plaintive ballads such as "Breaking the Girl," "I Could Have Lied," and the hit "Under the Bridge" give the album depth and provide contrast to the raw energy of "Mellowship Slinky in B Major," "Funky Monks," and "Give It Away." Rubin masterfully fuses John Frusciante's raunchy guitar with the irresistible grooves. --Marc Greilsamer

I've been listening to the Chili Peppers for a decade or so now, and finally I've decided to invest in them; that is, in their sound, their musicianship. It's part of my method to avoid being influenced by industry bally-hoo. We're all victims of Spin in virtually every arena of American life. Half the cost of every product (and every political candidate) is publicity. Not to lecture. I don't buy the Peppers to affirm social theories; I buy the music for emotional and artistic stimulation and insight. What I particularly like is A.K.'s singing. The vocalizing of most men seems to me dull and uninspired, but Tony the K is wildly different. He's better than his publicity, with his unpredictablec but secure, hot fusion of Gil Scott-Heron's ... Memo to 3,000 FM rock stations............1991
Please play a band called the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Their songs, "Under the Bridge" and "Give it Away" should be continually played till you have brainwashed the unwashed masses into believing this is a cool new band. Do not refer to any of their earlier LP's or that they came from alternative music scene. The band have been around a number of years and it is to your benefit to avoid mentioning their history as we had no intention of supporting them during their early years.
Refer to the band in a familiar way, i.e "The Chili Peppers," and become sponsors of any up coming tours.
Their music is a little rock, a little funk some rap and they do ballads as well. Their stuff is as bland ... Read More:

I know a lot about this album has already been said but I'll go ahead and say that I agree when people say that this is one of the best '90s rock albums, and one of the best rock albums of all time. Every song on "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" is amazing, with lots of great musicianship, singing and songwriting.
There's so much energy, funk and fun, this album is always great with every listen. From the amazing basslines of the legendary Flea to the in-the-pocket drumming of Chad Smith, the crooning vocals alongside the sometimes profound but in this case quite often naughty lyrics by the amazing Anthony Keidis and funky lead guitar lines of the awesome John Frusciante. Plus, Blood Sugar Sex Magik contains 17 songs at over 70 minutes, so that'll definitely ... Read More:

I was a bit apprehensive purchasing this album, thinking that funk music just wouldn't be my thing. But the beats are plain awesome thanks to some really great bass from Flea backed up by Chad's drums. Frusciante contributes absolutely incredible guitar playing along side Kiedis leading with spot-on vocals and lyrics as always. This is fun and easy listening at its best. Virtually perfect.
