 Rating: - A joy to listen toI have a recording of Rachmaninov himself playing the Partita, Daisies, Polka, Midsummer Night's Dream Scherzo, and Liebesfreud, and setting aside issues of recording quality, Costa's rendition has much greater precision, refinement, and musicality. Tchaikovsky's Lullaby is so beautifully colored in twilight hues. An as delicate as the buzzing wings of a bee, unlike so many renditions of this piece, Costa's Flight of the Bumble Bee is not only a virtuosic showpiece, but a musical gem to behold. This CD offers a great program that one can just put on and enjoy. |
