 Rating:  - One of Several Recordings of this Score.....Undoubtedly TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD is a masterpiece score, and no small thanks goes to orchestrators Leo Shuken and Jack Hayes. In addition to this fine (but rather over-produced Varese recording) is the Mainstream CD re-issue of the original Ava LP release. Sadly not only is the Mainstream CD deleted, but it was missing one track and several other tracks have become distorted, perhaps due to improper storage. Screen Archives currently offer a 1970's re-recording as part of an 11 CD set, this one with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, also conducted by Bernstein. I recommend this as closest to the original, other than the actual Ava LP. Rating: - To Kill a Mockingbird"To Kill A mockingbird" is one of my favorite movies and is my favorite book. When watching and rewatching the dvd, I also fell in love with the soundtrack. Was so glad it was reissued. I now have the soundtrack, which is a wonderful addition to my collection. Love it! Rating: - SENSITIVE YET HAUNTINGTHIS MOTION PICTURE SCORE GAVE ME CHILLS WHEN I FIRST HEARD IT. IT BROUGHT BACK MEMORIES OF THE MOVIE AND I MUST SAY, THIS HAS TO BE ONE OF THE BEST MOTION PICTURES OF ALL TIME. SEVERAL TIMES WHILE LISTENING TO THE VARIOUS SELECTIONS I FOUND MYSELF TEARING UP BECAUSE THE MOVIE MADE SUCH AN IMPRESSION ON ME. WELL WORTH BUYING. Rating: - As good as DVDThis original score sounds like real sound track. I have a DVD of this movie and repeat watching many times. But when I listen to this CD, I can remember pure impressions even without visible scenes. Rating: - Comfort MusicI have been entralled with "To Kill A Mockingbird" ever since I was 12 years old. After all of that time, I finally bought the soundtrack and am greatly impressed. The instrumentation that Berstein uses and develops is amazing. When you listen to the first couple of piano notes from the very first track, try it in the dark with your eyes closed or on a fall day wrapped in a blanket. To me, it truly is comfort music and I am brought to tears on track number nine. It is beautiful music, a soundtrack worth getting. |
