I had not really given that fact much thought until recently, when I was browsing the music channels on my cable, and stumbled upon an easy listening channel. After two songs, I was transported to my childhood, and realized that I actually enjoy this style of music. I've come to terms with the fact that I'm just a double-knit pantsuit and a half-stick of Doublemint away from becoming my mother, so I ordered this CD. I. LOVE. IT. LOVE. It is quintessential Welk, and it even has the closing theme from the show. If you are nostalgic for "beautiful music," this is the CD for you. AThe title comes from Stan Freberg's wonderful 1957 parody of Mr. Welk and his "bubbly" musical style [Wun-erful, Wun'erful], a format that drew more than it's fair share of ridicule from the more acerbic musical "experts" who, after 1955, fell into a pit known as "only R&R counts." Among those sharing their barbs and darts with Welk were people like Pat Boone, Paul Anka, Engelbert Humperdinck and Bobby Vinton. Strangely, however, the ones just mentioned all shared one common factor: their music sold in the millions.
