I had some doubts about this Messiah before I opened it and started playing it. My doubts disappeared almost immediately and never reappeared. This is, simply put, a sensational recording of Handel's best-loved oratorio. And it has the added attraction of being the version he prepared for a 1751 London performance in which the soprano parts were taken by boy trebles. The performers here are the Choir of New College, Oxford, the Academy of Ancient Music, three solo trebles, countertenor Iestyn Davies, tenor Toby Spence and bass Eamonn Dougan all under the direction of New College's long-time music director, Edward Higginbottom.

How can anyone ever go wrong with Ludwig???? While some of the CD's are vintage recordings and some by seldom heard artists.....the fact remains that Beethoven's music rises in a crescendo above all!!!!!!
Very good value for a great man's entire musical output!!!!!
Recommend highly!!!!

Quadrophenia (Remst)

In the late 60's early 70's concept albums were the thing! Although Tommy has its merits, Quadrophenia is a masterpiece. Almost classical in its breadth and tone. Townsend wrote this at his most gifted, during what I believe was his most creative period. Unlike Who's Next with anthems Won't get fooled again and Baba O'Reilly, Quadrophenia is a story and amazing soundscape. While it is undoubtedly a story of repressed anger coming out of post-war Britain's working class society (see the movie please), it has both pace and pathos to touch every one's heart. I'm listening to side 2 now on headphones. Even now at the age of 50 it touches this UK brat deeply.
