Thomas Tallis, born in 1505, was one of the outstanding liturgical composers of his day, being the acknowledged master of the composers of England from the time of Queen Mary's reign forward. He was a composer and Gentleman of the Chapel Royal during the reigns of Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary, and Elizabeth, and worked closely with many other composers, most particularly William Byrd. He was an organist in addition to composer. He died in 1585, having navigated his way through the tumultuous catholic/protestant difficulties of the church which provided his livelihood and creative outlet.

i hope that the title of this article is enough to describe my feelings towards this australian singing extravaganza....Dame Edna is more elegant than Joan Sutherland....i had the chance to see her live in La Scala, period 82-83 singing La Fille du regiment.......thank god Alfredo Kraus was singing with her........a lady of about 100 years old trying to act like the young Marie.....poor Joan...i remember the words of Zeffirelli when he first saw her: "she was huuuuge!i was wondering how the hell ma i gonna do Lucia with this creature".........oh, And By The Way.........the last that Sutherland has been towards Callas is JEALOUS.....i have a taped interview of Sutherland saying that even in her wildest dreamest she could ever do Traviata ... I love this cd. I came across this when I was 9 years old and I fell in love with it. The music is sophisticated and dreamy; it painted wonderful landscapes for my imagination!
"In Paradisum" is ancient-sounding and a bit exotic. I love the use of the male voices in "Eden". I hadn't heard the original before buying this cd and I have to admit that Sarah's version is better! "So Many Things" is charming and calming. "Anytime, Anywhere" is very dramatic and a bit sombre - beautiful! "Deliver Me", "Nella Fantasia" (she was the first to sing this!) and "Only An Ocean Away" are simply divine. "Scene D'Amour" introduced me to cello and I realized how gorgeous that instrument is, especially paired with Sarah's angelic voice!

Having bought the cd at a joust in England. I was lucky enough to see the ladies perform songs from the cd. It was a great sound and the Baebes are a real tribute to both professionalism and creativity.An extremely enjoyable experience and rarely out of the player!
