Its hard to find a faithful rendition of this. We managed to obtain an mp3 sample of the violin concerto #1 in A minor from the first disc on this set and found it very very nice indeed!

In 2004, any recording by Luciano Pavarotti (Decca`s own house tenor) will seem great to many people. But not so much because of Pavarotti, but more so because there aren`t any really good tenors today. On this CD, there is however just too much of Pavarotti. He doesn`t sound romantic(Bohème or Madama Butterfly) and certainly not dramatic(Pagliacci).
His voice, although he sings with some freedom and brilliance in the upper register when his breathing allows it, does not evoke exstacy or other overwhelming feelings. But he is certainly famouse, no doubt about that. This CD is for beginners in Opera.
And therefore it is OK. But Pavarotti is merely one of many good singers, and there were better singers and greater artists before him. Two ... Read More:

La Traviata is one of my favourite operas, not least because there are so many memorable arias. Renee Fleming is my favourite lyric soprano with a stunning instrument and glorious technique; she's also a very good actress. I found her performance to be beautifully nuanced in all three acts. Rolando Villazon is a great Alfredo and they worked well together. Seeing and hearing Renato Bruson at this stage of his career is a treat. I have several versions of La Traviata and love them all. This one has glorious singing coupled with very traditional sets and costumes. This is a version for those people who find it difficult to accept modern stagings. Baby Mozart

I like classical music, but some of the pieces have crescendos and accents that make it very difficult to listen to when you just want to relax. When I saw Baby Beethoven, I bought it and enjoyed it. I saw Baby Mozart at a different store and instantly picked it up.

The music doesn't have the sudden musical attacks that classical music has because the instant sound can frighten little ones. That is one of the great things about this CD. I can listen to in when I just want to sit down and relax.

I also like that the pieces and the CD itself, it's too long. I can finish the CD during a nice bath. The music also isn't too loud in general, so you don't have to have the CD player volume at full blast one moment, just to hear the music ... Read More:

Phantom Of The Opera

Phantom is, without a doubt, the best musical of all time. And while I loved the movie and am greatful that I can now watch Phantom anytime I want, I couldn't help but be disappointed by the singing. Anyone that says Emmy Rossum is better than Brightman has no ears. Emmy has a wonderful voice, but let's face it, she doesn't really sing opera. And while Gerard Butler seemed to sing the part of The Phantom well, his voice sounded slightly "adjusted". Without a doubt, Sarah Brightman IS Christine Daae and Micheal Crawford IS The Phantom! With that said if you love Broadway and have an appreciation for opera and fabulous singing, get this CD, you won't be disappointed. I, for one, am proud to own a piece of the greatest musical of all time!!!
