i purchased this CD recently and was a bit worried. i enjoy part and hillard, but the length of the pieces was often so short. i really enjoy it when part writes long, epic pieces and the vocal work really explores all types of music.
instead, what i found was a collection of many small gems, each of which combine to form the larger work i was looking for. i'm not particularily religious, but i find the deep spiritualism in part's work to be profound and soothing. this disc is no exception, as part and hillaird explore religion, theology and philosophy through music and voice.
this CD is well arranged and orchestrated, and ranks among the best of any of part's works. i've been leary of hearing part work outside of the ... Read More:

I purchased this disc primarily for the "choral fantasy" and "the tempest" written by Beethoven and was not in any manner dissapointed. In fact, this is the best "choral fantasy" I have heard. The emotion of this music literally pours from the speakers.
Much to my surprise, though, the work I have listened to most often, with rapt attention, is the title track "Credo" (by Arvo Part, a composer I thought I wasn't fond of). Upon first listening, I literally said "Wow!" This is powerful music and led me to change my opinion of Arvo Part. For those of you who, like me, disdain most modern works, this may change your opinion. Very highly recommeded!

I second the comment of the last reviewer ,rockyshore-81 from Phoenix. I am a newbie to opera and my Aida (Pavaroti/SF Opera House) was listened to only a couple of times. Millo likely was not that warmed up in the beginning but by the time of Scene 2 "Che veggo...pugnai" I had to sit up realising that she must be somebody as she was very prominent among Milnes & Domingo. Her solo in Act 3 "Qui Ramamis...' further confirmed what I was suspecting. Apparently the whole cast, orchestra and audience were listening. And after that, the whole Met audience went nuts. The final curtain calls can only be described as an emotional tribute to Millo and she reciprocated. Really unfortunate that she does not have too many recordings/dvd likely ... Read More:

Krystian Zimerman demonstrates on this disc a truly fine-tuned and irridescent style in his interpretation of the Chopin works offered. With every work on this disc he achieves a multitude of colors and a commanding, yet disciplined technical treatment. The pianism here shimmers and excites while never seeming indulgent. Also, the sotto voce serenity that Zimerman manages to create in the slow sections of the Barcarolle and the Fantasy is a pleasure to experience. Zimerman's harmonic awareness illuminates even the most fleeting harmonies, as in the closing pages of the fourth ballade. These performances have few peers and no betters. Whole-heartedly recommended.

Unlike many folks, I never saw the movie Titanic, nor did I catch the Lillihammer Winter Olympics. I first heard the voice of Sissel on The Chieftains album "Tears of Stone". I next heard a bit of her on a PBS video clip as I was outbound to China or San Francisco. The voice was unforgettable.
I saw this album in Borders in the States and picked it up knowing the quality of her voice. The beauty of the music just blew me away when I finally had a chance to sit down and listen to it. This recording is very well done with a mix of pop and classical that really showcases what this woman can do. I am serving the Lord in China currently, and the lyrics make think me a great deal of the woman over here that I have fallen in love with. She has listened to ... Read More:
