Wolfgang Amedeus Mozart's nervy youthfullness went far beyond his personal life. His choice of music very much reflects his own spirit. He chose to set to music Le Nozze Di Figaro (a play largely blamed for starting the French Revolution) put him somewhat at odds with Emperor Joseph. His tendency (very much in attendance here) to compose opera's in German at a time when Italian opera was at it's post popular also made him a bit of a musical rebel of his day.I don't listen to alot of classical music (but certainly I have favorites, notably by Eric Satie) but Mozart's many concereto's,acts of his opera's and so on demonstrate the youthful composers gift for melody and yes, even hints at improvisation that set 18'th ... Received the CD as a gift from a real good friend of mine (you know who you are). First of all, the CD showcases some of Sarah's most memorable songs which haven't received as much recognition as others have. This compilation features different versions of songs we're already familiar with...starting with "Love Changes Everything"...which isn't annoying & tinny, compared to the version on the "ALW Collection #1". I can't stand that version! This one has a heavier bass-line with a nicer, softer ending.
"Only You" is a track which I only heard as a poorly downloaded mp3 from a cracking, scratchy vinyl. So...I never really had the chance to enjoy it. But now that it's been re-mastered onto CD, I like it. It's ... Read More:

This amazingly popular opera has reached its peak with this flawless performance. Gerlad Finley is as wonderful a Count as he was Figaro few years prior, perhaps even better now that he is a bit older. The lovely Miah Persson and very handsome Erwin Schrott make a magnetic couple as Susanna and Figaro. Dorothea Röschmann as the Countess is superb, and Rinat Shaham's Cherubino is both splendid and amusing. And I particularly appreciated having the arias of Marcellina and Basillio, as so often they are omitted in many productions. This performance is one of the best.

I don't believe there is any one "best" version of this ever-popular opera, but this is my favorite of recorded Traviatas, and for those who value beautiful singing and state-of-the-art sound, it remains a top choice. It is complete and uncut; it wears supremely well; it has given me, and continues to give me, more musical pleasure than any other La Traviata.
La Traviata is really a three-character opera, and here the three principals, Sutherland, Bergonzi, and Merrill, are three of the great voices of the second half of the twentieth century, all singing highly congenial roles, all captured in their vocal primes. None of them was known as an insightful vocal actor who plumbed the psychological depths of a role, and listeners who ... Read More:

My daughter is now almost 5 years old and she still listens to the same CD she did at 5 months old. She is very bright and is doing amazing in her Junior Kindergarten class. She has always loved music, but she can't fall asleep unless we put on her Mozart CD. I would recomend it to any new or expectent parents, or even to parents who have a hard time putting toddlers to bed. It is a very soothing CD to listen to.
