In 2004, any recording by Luciano Pavarotti (Decca`s own house tenor) will seem great to many people. But not so much because of Pavarotti, but more so because there aren`t any really good tenors today. On this CD, there is however just too much of Pavarotti. He doesn`t sound romantic(Bohème or Madama Butterfly) and certainly not dramatic(Pagliacci). His voice, although he sings with some freedom and brilliance in the upper register when his breathing allows it, does not evoke exstacy or other overwhelming feelings. But he is certainly famouse, no doubt about that. This CD is for beginners in Opera. And therefore it is OK. But Pavarotti is merely one of many good singers, and there were better singers and greater artists before him. ... Read More:

Another amazing contribution from Loreena. The tracks from "a winter garden" also appear here, but this is still well worth adding to the collection. I would gladly listen to repeats of her arrangements, and the new tracks are fantastic.

She has a nice voice but her songs all sound the same including her lame Lyrics. She comes across like she is so full of herself it's pathetic!

Bryan Adams' third compilation (after 1993's So Far So Good and 1999's The Best Of Me) finally gives the man a proper retrospective. Wisely skipping his early dance hit "Let Me Take You Dancing", the collection kicks off with "Remember" from his first album and builds momentum from there. Most of BA's major hits are accounted for, although surprisingly there are still some hits missing ("Do I Have To Say The Words", "Kids Wanna Rock", "Best Is Yet To Come", etc.) and some are in alternate versions ("When You're Gone" is redone with Pamela Anderson instead of Mel C, "I'm Ready" is the 1997 Unplugged version, "18 'Til I Die" is a 2005 live version). BA's early albums aren't given as much representation as they should, but the hard-core fans will probably already ... Read More:

It's not hard to figure out why Bryan Guy Adams called this album what he did. What do you do when you're recording the follow up to your tenth album? Exactly. He's also at an age where he can never go back to the summer of '69, the kids that wanna rock COULD be the grandkids and straight from the heart could refer to angina, so the teen rocker status is no longer plausible.
Any musician with class and dignity moves on, moves forward, and creates. We've all seen the pathetic rockers who are trying to look younger than their kids and we know that they 'can't get no satisfaction' no matter what they do. Thank God Bryan had some common sense. He recorded a disc that isn't trying to rehash the oldies, but he isn't ready for the 'rock walker' yet!

This is an important album in Rush's career. It is a transitional album for them. Musically they introduce the sound of bands like Genesis, King Crimson, and Black Sabbath. Lyrically they reflect bands like Genesis and Yes, and certainly Geddy's vocals suggest Jon Anderson at times. The remastered CD sounds much better than the original CD release. For "Bastille Day", the definition on the remaster is outstanding. You
can pick out all the overdubbed layers of guitars.
Overall, their playing is busier and more complex than on the last album. They are definitely more accomplished. The arrangement of "Bastille Day" is much more complex than anything they accomplished on 'Fly By Night'. There is something about Lifeson's guitar sound that is unique to this album. ... Read More:

ok...I admit I am a huge fan of both Burton and Randy, but was expecting to hear just another run of the mill covers album. Boy was I wrong. The boys really created something special here. It nostalgic, fun, and is one of those albums you want to listen to from start to finish. You will find yourself cranking up the volume. Burton's playing and vocals are stellar. His seemingly effortless vocal delivery on the Cliff Richard tune "Don't Talk To Him" is simply amazing and the song could easily be a hit on radio. Randy's guitar work is superb, and his vocals on this album will knock your socks off! Take a listen and hear how "The Letter", and "Who Do You Love" totally rock. The band (Carpet Frogs) are tight...and they seem to understand the material perfectly.
The only downside ... Read More:

This beautifully textured masterpiece sparkles with atmospheric songs of great profundity including ballads like Still Water, The Maker & Where The Hawkwind Kills and uptempo tracks like O Marie and Jolie Louise. Brian Eno must also be credited for making the music so special.
The exquisite melodies have a folkie feel but the playing and production give the music an ethereal, brooding dimension that puts it in a league of its own. O Marie is sung entirely in French, while Jolie Louise and Under A Stormy Sky have alternating French and English verses.
The album concludes with a subdued rendition of Amazing Grace. There is a certain spiritual quality to the music that is hard to define, but also found in the work of fellow Canadian Jane Siberry, in Peter Gabriel's ... Read More:

Gould was more than one of the great pianists in recorded history, he was a world teacher through sound. Both of the famous recordings of what has to be regarded a his signature performance (1951/81) are worth far more than what you would pay for the disc. Technics aside (and they are dazzling, as always with Gould), the purpose of music is to remind you that you do feel, to engage you in what is being communicated. Melancholy, in the richest sense, and then, at moments, the eptiome of serene dispassion, always profound, this performance is a deep exploration of feeling and truth, and creates a meditative ambience which can evoke in the listener higher realizations. An immortal rendering of great music.
