As I have stated in many of my previous reviews, I am a huge fan of the Sony Essential Classics (SEC) budget series. Most of the recordings feature classic and often definitive performances featuring the likes of George Szell, Leonard Bernstein, Robert Casadesus, Isaac Stern and Rudolf Serkin among others. Here we get a variety of orchestras and conductors including big names like Jean-Claude Malgoire, Raymond Leppard, Pierre Boulez, Sir Charles Groves and the great Eugene Ormandy. This disc features excellent performances of what is arguably the most popular Baroque music ever written. Its hard to find a faithful rendition of this. We managed to obtain an mp3 sample of the violin concerto #1 in A minor from the first disc on this set and found it very very nice indeed!

In 2004, any recording by Luciano Pavarotti (Decca`s own house tenor) will seem great to many people. But not so much because of Pavarotti, but more so because there aren`t any really good tenors today. On this CD, there is however just too much of Pavarotti. He doesn`t sound romantic(Bohème or Madama Butterfly) and certainly not dramatic(Pagliacci).
His voice, although he sings with some freedom and brilliance in the upper register when his breathing allows it, does not evoke exstacy or other overwhelming feelings. But he is certainly famouse, no doubt about that. This CD is for beginners in Opera.
And therefore it is OK. But Pavarotti is merely one of many good singers, and there were better singers and greater artists before him. Two of ... Read More:

I like classical music, but some of the pieces have crescendos and accents that make it very difficult to listen to when you just want to relax. When I saw Baby Beethoven, I bought it and enjoyed it. I saw Baby Mozart at a different store and instantly picked it up.

The music doesn't have the sudden musical attacks that classical music has because the instant sound can frighten little ones. That is one of the great things about this CD. I can listen to in when I just want to sit down and relax.

I also like that the pieces and the CD itself, it's too long. I can finish the CD during a nice bath. The music also isn't too loud in general, so you don't have to have the CD player volume at full blast one moment, just to hear the ... Read More:

This was the first Bocelli CD I heard. A friend thought I would like it and got it for me for Christmas. I loved it the first time I heard it. It was an outstanding collection of Christmas hymns, we actually sang one in my church choir and one in my school choir. It has helped expanded my library of songs, since I sing Tenor. So now when I go to sing at Christmas and Holiday shows I can now do more than Jingle Bells, and Away in a Manger.

With Andrea's outstanding Tenor range this is an excellant addition to anyone's music collection.
