We found this to be full of beauty (we are ukrainian byzantine catholics and our entire liturgy is sung by all priests and congregation-harmonies to die for- we know beauty when we hear it) This will be played over and over again God bless all involved in this project.

Quite a curiosity, this latest album from Jazz bassist Charlie Haden. With his family and friends about him, he draws together various strands of Americana. Jack Black gives a fine belting performance (really, two vocal interludes in an instrumental) of Old Joe Clark. Roseanne Cash gives a creditable performance of Wildwood Flower but, having heard Karen Mal's perfect rendition of this beautiful Folk song, I'm afraid I'm spoiled for any other version. Petra Haden's rendition of The Fields of Athenry is my favorite track. A Folk song with lengthy Jazz sections, which suit it very well, it merits classic status.

Ricky Scaggs, Elvis Costello and others are also featured.

Elvis Presley had so many great gospel songs there are sure to be disagreements about which ones belong on an "ultimate" compilation. Most every Elvis fan agrees this is a great release and would just change a song or two... of course we all choose different songs. This goes to show this is a great, great release that does about as well as can be expected in showcasing Elvis' vast talent and conviction when singing the music he loved the most: Gospel.

The Legend Of Johnny Cash: 1955-2003

It's hardly the definitive collection of Johnny Cash but for a single cd there's no disputing what is here. "I Walk The Line," "Hurt," U2's "The Wanderer," every song's excellent. Maybe there should have been more of the older classics and less of the newer ones but it's a great sampler of his entire career, especially for people that may have only discovered him in recent years. Hopefully there'll be a sequel to the collection.

Update: In 2006 a second part was released to this collection, every bit as good as this one; it's definitely worth getting as well.

Excellent sample of the contemporary Christian artists and their music. I listen to this type of CD to keep in touch with the music styles so that when needing a CD for some young person, and I know the sound they are drawn to with the secular music - I can give them the Christian alternative. This allows them the sound AND uplifting lyrics instead of the destuctive/depressing lyrics so much of the secular world gives them.
Personally, I liked this CD and will definiately be purchasing more to give to others. Also discovered a few groups that I will purchase their album now, too.
