I purchased this cd based on the reviews on this forum and I would have to agree with the others. This is a wonderful album. Madeleine's voice is timeless and unique. Yes, her voice is reminiscent of Billie Holiday but she's got her own definite style. She adds the right amount of subtle playful sultriness to her songs which makes her interpretations memorable. I highly recommend this!

Half The Perfect World

I believe that this is Madeleine Peyroux's best album to date. I own all of her albums and I think that her voice shines through on here. There are some well established standards on this brilliant cd which Madeleine Peyroux makes her own.

I couldn't really choose a single favourite on here so I will have to choose the whole album. The classic song by Nilsson, "Everybody's Talking At Me", is given a wonderful twist which works extremely well and she sings it with great finess. Another one is "River" which she sings as a duet with kd lang. A gorgeous song that is exquisite in its delivery. Then there's the closing track "Smile" written by Charlie Chaplin. Dreamland

Listening to this album it is hard to believe this isn't one of the great black female Jazz artists from the 30's or 40's. Madeleine Peyroux has a voice very reminiscent of Billie Holliday yet uniquely her own. She delivers her songs with a style and maturity way beyond her years; she was a mere 22 years old when she recorded this. As well as covering some well-known numbers Ms Peyroux performs some of her own songs proving she is as talented a songwriter as she is a singer. There isn't a track on this album that isn't flawlessly performed but particularly outstanding are 'La Vie En Rose' and 'A Prayer'.
This is an album that you want to listen to with the lights low and curled up in a comfy chair.... bliss.
