- A strong collection of Celine's best-known english songs
Although it's well-known that Celine Dion is from Quebec and that she has recorded (and sold) millions of albums in french around the world, "My Love" is a strong reminder that her english career was just as instrumental in establishing her as an international superstar.
This is a 2-CD compilation of her best-known songs performed in english (with the lone exception of "Pour que tu m'aimes encore", from the amazing 1995 album "D'Eux" also known as "The French album"). Those looking for the biggest charting hit singles will be delighted with the selection of songs this compilation has to offer; from her very first U.S. charting hit ("Where does my heart beat now") to her most recent (the title track), everything you'd expect from a retrospective of Celine's english career is there : "My heart will go on", "If you asked me to", "All by myself", "I drove all night", "I'm alive", "Tell him", "Because you loved me", "I'm your angel", "To love you more", "Beauty and the beast", "Taking chances" and so on. In fact, one really should consider buying this double-CD edition instead of the single-disc version. Longtime fans will be glad to notice that some songs make their appearance on a Celine album for the first time ("Power of the dream" from the 1996 Olympics, "I knew I loved you", "Dance with my father"). The live version of the title track is also quite striking in its intimacy and power.
Of course, completists will point out to the few important singles missing. Indeed, this compilation would have been more complete with the inclusion of "Unison" (especially its fantastic single remix), "Nothing broken but my heart", "Immortality", "The reason", "Think twice", "Misled", "Beautiful boy", "Alone", "Have you ever been in love" and "Only one road". Many of those songs are available on the international edition of this compilation, though. It would also have been nice to finally include the sharper single remix of "Love can move mountains" instead of the album version. Still, this compilation is appealing for both her diehard fans and more casual fans looking to get almost everything in one package. All in all, this is a much more satisfying selection of songs than her late 90s "All the way" compilation (which offered many new songs, but omitted many of her biggest hits). People who find themselves turned off by Celine's vocal style will not find anything here to change their mind; the rest of us will enjoy it greatly.

If you ever have the chance to go to a Celine Dion concert, I would recommend that you spend the money and take advantage of the opportunity. We went to a Celine Dion concert last night, and I can tell you that she is amazing. I can understand that Celine Dion is not popular amongst all Canadians; but if you can put aside your opinions abour what she values and how she chooses to live her life, then you can see what quality made her rich and famous: which is the ability of her to express herself musically. This latest disc that Celine Dion has put out reflects and exposes her amazing talents, and takes listeners on a musical journey throughout her career life. You will notice that although the album has different songs, Celine is still the same, just like the people who love her know her, and what those people who love her, expect from her. Although I think a really great added feature of this two disc set would be including 2 more which are the songs sung in French, this way it reflects both the English & French Canada. But all around, an awesome album.
